Q: I want to get involved. How can I help? A: We are in continuous need of volunteers who would communicate with individual or corporate sponsors; they should ideally be willing and able to communicate and have some experience in this field. Generally all are welcome who assist in collecting and sorting/packing donated items, organizing fundraising events and manning our perennial booth at the DB Flea Markets.
Q: How would I know what fundraining events you organize, and where and when? A: Since we have not managed to hold regular fundraising events nor advertise on a greater scale (that can be tedious and costly!), the best is to keep watching this site - especially the "Latest News" section - or contact our charity co-oprdinator.
Q: I would like to organize my own event. How do I do this? A: A very popular and easy to do way of organizing your own fundraising event is to plan and hold parties of any sort, such as dinners or birthday parties (money for charity instead of gifts) or football matches. People sometimes have regular get-togethers such as social tennis matches where they raise money for certain points lost, e.g. due to double faults. You can also initiate a group hike and thereby raise money. Note: we plan to sell specially made T-shirts or polo shirts, manufactured by sweatshops we support. You can get them from us and then re-sell at your own events.
Q: How do I donate goods? A: We have periodic collection events at which we ask donors to drop their unwanted things (no trash, please!) at a certain location. Please watch the "Latest News" section for details, or contact our charity co-ordinator.
Q: How do I make a financial donation to S.O.S. LANKA ACTION? A: Within Hong Kong (payments in Hong Kong Dollars), you can simply send your cheque, made out to S.O.S. LANKA ACTION, or, in case you have a Hong Kong Dollar account with HSBC, remit amounts to our account no. 571-131770-001 with HSBC, Discovery Bay Branch. For money donated in currencies other than Hong Kong Dollars, please check with our charity co-ordinator or your banker how to effect payments. Note that you can donate on a regular basis, e.g. by standing order to deduct a fixed amount from your monthly income, or by one-off payments, all payments of which will be tax-deductible. Ask us for official receipts.
Q: Where exactly does my money go? A: We strive to utilize all funds donated in a way that benefits the poor and needy most. However there are costs. Since we manage to keep these at a minimum due to the fact that we have very limited fixed costs (no office rents; no paid employees; no local transportation or subsidised meals; etc.), we aim at spending less than 5% of all donated monies on average at any given time. As for the deatils about funds disbursed to the needy, please contact our charirty co-ordinator.
Currently we have a project to get a water well drilled and reinforced for a poor family. The related costs are considerable. We need to raise the related funds as soon as we can. For donations and information relating to the subject please call Bernadette at tel. no. 2983 8744.
The followwing children's clothes for girls and boys from age 3 to age 9 are needed urgently fo distribution to the needy in Sri Lanka: 100% cotton T-shirts and shorts / trousers; vests and briefs; socks.

We appreciate your donations of used children's and adult books, fiction or non-ficition. We will sell these on the quarterly fela markets taking place at Discovery Bay Plaza. Incidentally, the next DB Flea Market will take place on April 11, 2010, from 12 noon till 5:00 PM. Look out for our booth!
