FOLLOW-UP MADE ON DONATED MECHANICAL SEWING MACHINES

During our work stay in Sri Lanka, in December, 2011, we followed up with 11 women who had been given mechanical sewing machines in August, 2010, in order to establish that they are using the machines to improve their livelihoods from the proceeds of the sale of their products. It could be established that all parties but one are very successful. Please contact us for the related report.

SELF-SUSTAINABILITY PROJECTS COMPLETED

In December, 2011, 13 different families and individuals received vital assistance from SOS LANKA ACTION to start up or boost their own small-scale businesses, enabling them to earn a living in a sustainable way. Among other things, five parties intending to trade in spices got such in six different varieties; one husband-and-wife couple received the vital tools to start producing and selling local sweets; yet another couple that already produces and sells cotton-based goods and could not afford growing their business, received a 30 kg sack of raw cotton; and more. Please inquire with us for a full report.

ANNUAL FOOD HAMPER CAMPAIGN 2011 SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED

On December 20, 2011, the SOS LANKA ACTION team gave away 75 food hampers plus 36 sacks of five-kg rice bags to families and individuals who had not been registered to receive a food hamper. All this was possible because of the very generous financial donations by many parties, and we wish to take this opportunity to thank all our kind donors. We will submit an elaborate report of the event and further actions initiated by our charity after the return of our team to Hong Kong.

CASH DONATIONS TO SOS LANKA ACTION INSTEAD OF BIRTHDAY PRESENTS

In the true spirit of "TO GIVE IS MORE REWARDING THAN TO RECEIVE" a little girl from Discovery Bay who recently celebrated her 7th birthday had a wonderful idea: after learning the news about SOS LANKA ACTION's annual Christmas Food Hamper Campaign she asked all her B'day party guests to make cash donations to SOS LANKA ACTION in support for our campaign instead of buying her presents. In this way, our favorite hero girl collected and handed over to us no less than HK$ 2,200.00! Thank you JULIET KOUNG for this great idea and your considerable generosity! We will make it a point to inform the recipients of this year's food hampers about your truly loving gift!

ELEVEN MECHANICAL SEWING MACHINES DONATED

Sewing Machines DonatedOn August 23, 2011, SOS LANKA ACTION donated eleven mechanical sewing machines to a selected group of women who would now be able to have one means to sustain themselves and their families. This project was in part supported financially by the Rotary Club Golden Mile, Kowloon, Hong Kong, for which we extend our gratitude and thanks.

Our Mission

Intensify and broaden charitable projects: we plan to materially support individual persons, families or institutions, establish co-operatives and workshops that woul ideally be able to yield incomes, and start facilities which would provide free education. Realize all these and other tasks in the most ethical manner possible.
